The US Department of Justice has launched a criminal probe into Boeing concerning the door plug blowout incident that occurred on an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 jet in January.
The incident, where the door plug blew out shortly after take-off, led to the grounding of all Boeing 737 Max 9 jets for maintenance checks.
DOJ has interviewed pilots, cabin crew, and passengers related to the incident, while Alaska Airlines stated they are fully cooperating with the investigation.
A preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board found that no bolts were installed on the door plug, adding pressure on Boeing for stricter oversight of its production processes and quality assurance.
