The US Department of Transportation has proposed to bar seven Chinese airlines—Air China, Beijing Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, and Xiamen Airlines—from using Russian airspace on US routes.

The restriction, based on the 1980 US-China Civil Air Transport Agreement, addresses competitive imbalances, as US carriers have been rerouted since Russia closed its airspace in May 2022.

The proposal affects 50 weekly US-China flights and requires compliance within 30 days of a final order. Comments are due within two business days, with replies two days later.
