Venice will implement a €10 fee for last-minute visitors booking less than four days in advance starting in 2025, doubling the usual €5 charged to daytrippers.
The tax wil apply for 54 days in 2025:
- April 2025: from 18 to 30 April.
- May 2025: from 1 to 4, 9 to 11, 16 to 18, 23 to 25 and 30 and 31 May.
- June 2025: the 1st and 2nd, 6th to 8th, 13th to 15th, 20th to 22nd and 27th to 29th June.
- July 2025: from 4 to 6, 11 to 13, 18 to 20 and 25 to 27 July.
A pilot tax scheme that began on April 18, 2024, generated €2.4m over its initial 29 days, attracting nearly 438,000 tourists.
The city sees around 30m visitors each year, prompting officials like tourism councillor Simone Venturini to seek management solutions for tourist flow during peak times.
The new system allows exemptions for residents and certain visitors, while fines for those without tickets at entry points will range from €50 to €300.
