England’s Post Office Long Haul Holiday Report 2023 reveals that the Far East provides the best value for holiday destinations.
Seven out of the top ten destinations are located in the Pacific Asia region, including Hoi An (1), Bali (4), Tokyo (5), Delhi (6), Phuket (7), Penang (9), and Colombo (10).
Bridgetown in Barbados and New York in the USA are the most expensive destinations in the report, despite prices falling in both compared to 2022 levels.
There is still a significant price difference between Orlando and New York City in the US, with New York being 57pc more expensive for meals, drinks, and other tourist items.
Prices have risen in Cancun, Mexico (7.1pc) and Tamarindo, Costa Rica (5.8pc), partly due to the weakening of their currencies. Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic has also seen an 18pc increase in prices.
Among the Caribbean resorts surveyed, Montego Bay in Jamaica is the most affordable, being 40pc cheaper than Bridgetown in Barbados, which is the most expensive among the seven resorts.
Prices in most of these destinations have dropped due to currency fluctuations, making them more affordable for travellers.
Hoi An in Vietnam has been ranked the best value for the second year in a row, with a 19.2pc decrease in prices in 2022. India and Sri Lanka are new entries in the top 10 list.

Chris Crampton, Chairman of PATA says that apart from the value proposition, the Far East offers a unique blend of culture, nature, adventure, cities, and beaches, making it an appealing choice for travellers seeking exceptional value. The full results of the 2023 Post Office Travel Money Long Haul Holiday Report* can be viewed online at www.postoffice.co.uk/longhaul
