Virgin Australia purchases nine Boeing 737-8 aircraft

Virgin Australia has decided to purchase nine out of twelve incoming Boeing 737-8s in 2026 instead of dry leasing them according to a stock exchange filing.

The choice stemmed from a strong balance sheet supported by an operating profit of AUD 490m in the six months ended December 2025.

The carrier plans capital expenditures of AUD 850 to 950m for fiscal year 2026 ending June 2026.

Virgin Australia expects to take delivery of four Boeing 737-8s in the first half of 2026 including one on 2 March followed by eight more in the second half.

The airline closed its twenty-six unit orderbook for the type while retaining orders for thirteen Boeing 737-10s.
