Eoghan Corry will give the St Brigid 1500 commemoration lecture on October 14 at Kilcullen heritage Centre at 10am as part of the federation of local history societies AGM. The subject is deciphering the St Brigid code
We know very little about the real Saint Brigid. We know a lot, perhaps too much, about the legend she created. Saint Brigid was the most famous Irish woman of her time and for 1000 years after her life.
Her fame swept across Europe at a time that Saint Patrick was unheard of beyond these shores. Saint Brigid of Sweden was named for her. But in the vast body of literature that was created to honour Saint Brigid, there are clues to what lies beneath.
What we uncover is sparkling and beautiful, in some ways more enticing than the woman of the miracles and of the reed crosses
