Paul Kelly CEo of Fáilte Ireland told the annual conference of the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation of the difficulties the body had in advance of the launch of the Hidden Heartlands brand in 2018.
He said: “When we launched the hidden Heartland brand there was a lot of pressure but there was that sense of you know if we did it, it would be useful. It is all about confidence and if we you know people we can give people something that they can have confidence in and can buy into and they could build that confidence. That’s a really important thing that we did with the hidden Heartland. One of the biggest concerns is we did not have the capital that we thought was going to be required to put into this region. But the industry absolutely embraced the hidden Heartland brand.”
The Hidden Heartlands district encompassed Cavan, East Galway, Longford, Offaly Roscommon, part of Tipperary and Westmeath.
