A fire occurred at Weston Airport between Celbridge and Lucan late Tuesday night, leading to the cancellation of all flights on Wednesday; the small blaze near the control tower was quickly contained by firefighters.

The airport confirmed there are no commercial flights operating to or from Weston, and stated that Dublin Airport will not be affected by the incident.

The fire department received assistance from Weston Airport’s own fire service, with four fire engines deployed to extinguish the blaze, and no injuries were reported.

A full investigation into the fire’s cause will begin the following morning; Weston Airport, established by Ardclough-born Darby Kennedy in 1931, is known as “Ireland’s only executive airport,” serving helicopters and private aircraft. It has been the home of the National Flight Centre pilot academy since 1977.

Dublin Fire Brigade shared “we received great assistance from the on-site Weston Airport fire service. No injuries were reported following the incident. Four fire engines from Tallaght, Blanchardstown and Tara Street stations were mobilised to the incident and on arrival firefighters in breathing apparatus were quickly able to contain and extinguish a room fire in a building at the site. The building was ventilated using positive pressure fans to clear any remaining smoke.”
