Shannon airport has been closed twice by fog in the past week with flights diverted to Dublin again on Sunday morning, October 15.
On the night of October 9/10 flights were also diverted due to fog.
The problem is temporary. Shannon Airport could not implement low visibility procedures during essential maintenance works on their taxiway.
The works are almost complete so the airport should be back to normal operations in the coming days.
Passengers attempting to claim from airlines have run into difficulties after last week’s closure. One passenger reported: “I took a Ryanair flight from Malta to Shannon. The flight was diverted to Dublin but Ryanair failed to provide us with transport to Shannon. We were told to make our own way and to apply for compensation. I have tried but the claim form still says our flight landed onetime in Shannon making the claim impossible.”
