A committee of residents in south Wicklow has formed to advocate for the Arklow to Shillelagh greenway project, which has faced extensive delays.

During a public meeting in Tinahely, local representatives discussed the greenway’s potential for tourism and safe connections for walkers and cyclists.

TDs Brian Brennan, Malcolm Byrne, and Fionntán O’Súilleabháin expressed their support for the project and pointed out the €500,000 funding had been allocated this year but the project was hidebound by bureaucratic challenges.

Concerns were raised about the proposed route impacting Aughrim village, with residents worried about planning considerations for infrastructure and traffic management.

Director Joe Lane confirmed that the route selection is under active review and that further consultation for specific designs will occur once approvals are in place.
