Wizz Air Abu Dhabi will terminate operations on September 1, 2025, due to engine reliability issues and geopolitical volatility.
The decision follows a reduction of one-third of the airline’s UAE network, aiming to strengthen presence in Europe.
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is a joint venture that began operations in January 2021 after receiving its air operator’s certificate in October 2020.
The airline’s fleet consists of eight A321-200s and four A321-200NX, currently operating 25 routes from Abu Dhabi.
Other Wizz Air AOCs will continue to operate to Abu Dhabi, with Wizz Air Malta and Wizz Air covering various routes during the 2025-26 IATA winter season.
Wizz Air’s chief executive József Váradi shared, “Supply chain constraints, geopolitical instability, and limited market access have made it increasingly difficult to sustain our original ambitions. While this was a difficult decision, it is the right one given the circumstances.”
