Wizz Air Holdings received “significant compensation” from Pratt & Whitney for issues with the PW1100G GTF engines, totalling net proceeds of €198.6m during the last fiscal year, and expects future compensation for similar issues for Q4 of the 2025 fiscal year and beyond.

The average off-wing time for engines is around 300 days, but the airline is mitigating this by acquiring new spare engines, with plans to exceed 50 spare engines by the end of summer through additional deliveries and wet leases.

Despite engine-related groundings, Wizz Air has been increasing capacity through wet leases and efficiency improvements, extending leases for several aircraft and expecting to induct new A321-200NX and A320-200s between April 2024 and March 2025.

As of May 17, forty-seven PW-powered A320-200Ns and A321-200NX were grounded, with the number expected to rise to around 50 aircraft by September. The airline plans no capacity growth for the 2025 fiscal year due to the impact of PW-related groundings.
