Work has begun on the Inis Cealtra (Holy Island) visitor centre in Mountshannon village, East Clare.
The project involves repurposing and extending the historic Old Rectory building into a visitor and interpretative centre.
The centre will feature an exhibition area, a reception area, an upstairs café, and a rectory garden.

Funding of €4,290,765 has been awarded by the Department of Rural and Community Development, with additional funding from Clare County Council.
This project aims to enhance access to and interpretation of Inis Cealtra, an important historical and ecclesiastical site with links to Brian Boru. The plans also include upgrades to island and mainland access, wayfinding infrastructure, and public parking facilities. The visitor centre is expected to open in 2024 and will contribute to the tourism and economic development of the area.
