Fáilte Ireland will be pushing Ireland as business tourism destination at the Dublin Tech Summit. The summit, being held from February 15 to 16, is bringing more than 10,000 attendees to the capital.

More than half of the attendees are from overseas and include global leaders in innovation, technology and business to discuss the future of global trends and technologies. You can learn more about the summit here.

Fáilte Ireland, a founding sponsor of the summit, will showcase Dublin to selected tech associations with a view to bringing their events here. Fáilte Ireland’s Head of Business Tourism, Ciara Gallagher, said: “We see events such as the Tech Summit as an incredibly important opportunity to showcase Ireland’s ability to deliver excellent conference events to a global audience. Indeed, we are bringing in five prospective tech sector association buyers – for future similar events – on a familiarisation trip to experience the Summit in action and take in a number of site visits while in-country.

“These buyers had indicated an interest in hosting a tech conference in Ireland in the past but, for whatever reason, ended up going elsewhere. The summit will give us an opportunity to reignite their interest in Ireland as a result of seeing a similar event to their own in full swing.”

Fáílte Ireland’s Meet in Ireland Team have targeted the five Tech Associations (representing software and information systems) and invited them to come to Dublin during the summit as they collectively represent an opportunity worth €4.6m in international conference business and over 2,800 international delegates. These invitees will attend the Tech Summit and also avail of site visits to the RDS, Croke Park and Trinity College.

Fáilte Ireland’s Dublin team are slso piloting an ‘Extend Your Stay’ project to encourage visiting delegates from the Tech Summit to mix leisure with business – in other words to arrive a few days before or stay on after the event. Targeting those who have registered to attend from overseas, Fáilte Ireland is promoting directly all there is to see and do in the city, with attendees being directed to a dedicated web page on visitdublin.com showing what Dublin has to offer.  Fáilte Ireland is also working with Dublin’s tourism trade encouraging them to engage and promote directly with these delegates.

Keelin Fagan, Fáilte Ireland’s Head of Dublin, said: “We want delegates to experience the real Dublin, encouraging them to stay a few extra days whilst also ensuring that they see what Dublin has to offer outside the conference room.  We have developed ‘insider tips’ for them – showcasing all the great things to do and see across Dublin. We know we have a great city and we want each and every one of these delegates to know that too.”
