Emirates President Tim Clark expresses said Boeing’s ongoing crisis “is far from over” and believes the U.S. aircraft manufacture must address customer concerns.
Speaking at a roundtable during the IATA AGM in Dubai, Clark asserts that Emirates should receive substantial compensation for delays in the development of Boeing’s latest 777 jet, with the airline being a significant buyer of widebody aircraft from both Boeing and Airbus.
Due to manufacturing issues and delays, Emirates is increasing its Boeing 777 retrofit program, resulting in a cost increase from ¢2bn to 3.5bn, and wants Boeing to fit the bill.
Clark recommends Boeing appoint a CEO with a strong engineering and business background to succeed Dave Calhoun, and he predicts a rise in airfares in the industry over the next five years.
Clark said that Boeing will take a few more years to recapture its production line on all aircraft types and that it needs to first look back at the last 10–15 years to see what went wrong.
