The Royal Valentia hotel on Valentia Island is being sold for €3m as the Kidd family, its Dublin-based owners, retire from the business.
The hotel has 30 rooms but has planning consent for an additional 21 bedrooms and features a new 250-seater Skellig Rock function room which can be used for various events.
The hotel has a historical significance as it evolved from a small inn founded in 1833, a hotel built on the site by carpenter Thomas Young, and has attracted notable guests including two sons of England’s Queen Victoria, Duke Arthur and the future George V in 1897. The hotel was taken over by Timothy Galvin in 1901 and by the Huggard family in 1937.
Located in Knightstown village, the hotel is near various tourist attractions such as the Transatlantic Cable Museum and is a popular stop for visitors exploring the Wild Atlantic Way and Ring of Kerry.
