Spain’s aviation sector kicks off 2026 on a high note, with over 8.3m seats scheduled on international flights in January, marking a 5.3pc increase from the previous year.

According to data from Turespaña, this growth reflects robust demand from key markets, including a 5.2pc rise from England, 4.4pc from France, and modest gains from Italy. Nordic countries show mixed results, with Norway up 4.2pc, while emerging emitters like Turkey (35pc), Poland (23.5pc), and Czech Republic (21.5pc) exhibit explosive growth.

Among Latin American sources, Colombia and Mexico lead in capacity. The figures bode well for winter tourism, particularly in coastal and cultural hotspots, bolstering hospitality revenues amid seasonal challenges. However, Germany’s 5pc decline highlights potential vulnerabilities tied to economic factors.
