Riyadh Air has taken delivery of its first two B787-9 aircraft from Boeing as the Saudi carrier prepares for commercial operations. The jets arrived in formation in Riyadh on 4 and 5 June 2026 after ferrying from different Boeing facilities in the United States. These aircraft replace a trial B787-9 that the airline dry-leased from Oman Air.
The two new B787-9s carry the registrations HZ-RXAA and HZ-RXAB. Each aircraft offers capacity for up to 290 passengers in a three-class configuration that includes 28 business class seats, 39 premium economy seats and 223 economy seats. Riyadh Air holds a firm order for 39 B787-9 aircraft in total from Boeing.
The carrier plans to launch scheduled flights on 1 July 2026. It also maintains firm orders for 60 A321-200NX and 25 A350-1000 aircraft. The leased aircraft HZ-RXX supported only certification and test flights and will not operate revenue services.
Riyadh Air shared “The aircraft are the first two jets that the carrier will use for commercial service.”
