Wizz Air reported strong passenger growth in July, carrying 8,357,282 passengers as the Hungarian based low-cost carrier continued to expand its European network with new bases in Spain and Kosovo.
The figure was up 32.6pc on July 2025 and 119.3pc ahead of pre-pandemic. Rolling annual was 76,022,897, up 16.2pc on the twelve months to July 2025. The latest figures represent a further acceleration in demand following the 27pc annual passenger growth recorded in June, as the airline entered the peak summer travel season.
Wizz Air also improved its aircraft utilisation, with its load factor, the proportion of seats filled, rising by 0.9 percentage points to 93.7pc, indicating sustained demand across its route network. Alongside the traffic results, the airline unveiled a series of expansion initiatives designed to strengthen its presence in key European markets. In Spain, Wizz Air confirmed it will establish new operating bases in Madrid and Valencia, both scheduled to open in November 2026. Each base will initially operate with two aircraft, underlining the airline’s long-term commitment to one of its most important markets. The expansion will introduce 10 new domestic routes alongside three new international services, further increasing connectivity across Spain and the wider European network.
The carrier also announced a new base in Prishtina, Kosovo, which will open in November with a single Airbus A321neo aircraft. Three new routes will be launched from the Kosovan capital, linking Brussels Charleroi, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden and Basel-Mulhouse. The additional aircraft and increased flight frequencies are expected to add around 500,000 seats to the airline’s network next year. Meanwhile, Wizz Air has expanded beyond flights with the launch of Wizz Holidays, a new travel platform allowing customers to book package holidays by combining flights with selected accommodation and ground transfers in a single reservation. The latest passenger figures reinforce Wizz Air’s rapid growth trajectory as it continues investing in fleet expansion and new bases ahead of the winter season, while broadening its travel offering beyond low-cost air services.
