Aeroméxico is suspending its México City International-Quito International route from July 1 to December 18, 2024, due to low load factors and will evaluate its continuity during this time.
The airline had an average 71% load factor on the route and has set up a passenger protection scheme for travellers flying after June 30.
Mexico and Ecuador had a diplomatic issue earlier in the year, but the airline’s decision to suspend the route is due to business reasons.
Passengers travelling between Mexico and Ecuador can still fly via Copa Airlines or Avianca through Panama City Tocumen International or Bogotá as Aeroméxico and VivaAerobus have halted their direct flights to Quito. Cargo specialist mas (Mexico) continues to operate flights between Quito and México City Felipe Angeles.
