Air Astana Group has finalised a firm order for 25 Airbus A320neo family aircraft marking its largest ever direct purchase from the European manufacturer.

The agreement signed in Toulouse on the second of March 2026 includes five A320neo and twenty A321neo jets and coincides with the twentieth anniversary of the airline operating its first A320 back in 2006. The new narrowbody aircraft will support both the full service Air Astana operations and its low cost subsidiary FlyArystan contributing to a comprehensive fleet renewal and expansion strategy in one of the world’s fastest growing aviation markets.

Shareholders of the Kazakhstan based carrier approved the transaction in February 2026 following an initial memorandum of understanding signed in November 2025 for up to fifty A320neo family aircraft. The firm portion now locked in reflects confidence in sustained demand across Central Asia and the Caucasus regions where Air Astana leads by revenue and fleet size. The current group fleet stands at fifty nine Airbus A320 family aircraft and the additions will enhance operational efficiency fuel savings and passenger capacity while enabling route growth and modernisation.

Airbus executives highlighted the proven success of the A320neo family in Air Astana service over many years noting unmatched economics and strong market appeal. The aircraft are compatible with sustainable aviation fuel blends up to fiftypc further aligning with environmental goals. Deliveries are expected to commence in phases with some projections pointing to arrivals between 2031 and 2034 though exact timelines depend on production slots and airline priorities.

This order follows recent widebody commitments including Boeing 787s and positions Air Astana for continued leadership in regional connectivity. Industry analysts view the deal as a strong endorsement of Airbus narrowbody dominance in emerging markets amid robust post pandemic recovery.
