Air India Express will receive up to twenty A320 aircraft from parent company Air India as part of a fleet optimisation strategy to increase flying on domestic and short-haul international routes.

The aircraft transfer will occur in phases over the next few months, with cabin crew and pilots also being transferred to Air India Express.

Air India Express, predominantly a Boeing operator, will become a predominantly Airbus operator after absorbing AIX Connect’s A320 fleet.

The fleet transfer is part of a broader overhaul that includes merging Air India Express with AIX Connect, merging Vistara with Air India, and merging Tata-owned low-cost carriers, resulting in a reduction of Tata Sons airline brands to two, with hopes of completing the mergers by the end of the year.
