Air Niugini has taken delivery of its first A220-300 aircraft, leased from Azorra, on 11 September 2025, becoming the 25th global operator of the A220.

The aircraft, named “People’s Balus,” features a special livery marking Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence anniversary, designed with 11 colours. Configured for 138 passengers, the A220-300 offers a 6,700km range and 25pc lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions compared to previous-generation aircraft.

The delivery flight departed Mirabel, Canada, for Port Moresby, stopping in Vancouver, Honolulu, and Fiji. Air Niugini’s fleet modernisation includes eight A220-100s on order and three A220-300s leased, enhancing regional and international operations.
