The Asuka III, an LNG-powered vessel built for NYK Group’s Asuka Cruise brand by Meyer Werft, began sea trials in the North Sea.
After transiting the Ems River earlier in March, the ship is undergoing rigorous testing to assess its seaworthiness, manoeuvrability, and technical safety systems.
Scheduled for delivery in early April 2025, the Asuka III is the first new cruise ship for the Asuka Cruise brand in over 30 years and can accommodate 744 guests.
The vessel will offer cruises from various ports in Japan, visiting over 30 destinations including Hakodate, Otaru, Takamatsu, and Muroran during its maiden season from July to October 2025.
A key feature of Asuka III is its design, which incorporates open spaces along with traditional Japanese aesthetics, including artworks by notable Japanese artists in various onboard locations.
