Opening of Athy distributor road

Athy Distributor Road will move traffic from the town centre and help clear congestion, invitees at the official opening were told.

The road project includes a 3.4 km road that bypasses the existing town of Athy, along with 5.8 km of combined walking and cycling infrastructure, including a repurposed railway bridge over the River Barrow, two new roundabouts, new signalised junctions at the Carlow Road and Fortbarrington Road, an 80 m single span steel bridge over the River Barrow and a new railway bridge over the Dublin to Waterford railway line.

The scheme aims to create a safer travel environment, reduce journey times, and improve public transport accessibility in Athy.
