Azul Linhas Aéreas and GOL Linhas Aéreas are reportedly in advanced negotiations for a merger, with plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) soon to outline key details of the business combination.
The proposed merger could involve creating a new corporation that allows both airlines to maintain their independent brands while controlling a combined 62pc of the Brazilian domestic market capacity.
This merger discussion follows a series of collaborations, including a codeshare agreement signed in May 2024 and GOL’s Chapter 11 reorganization plan, which has provisions for strategic business combinations.
In a related development, Azul’s subsidiary announced strong participation rates in its debt restructuring offer, highlighting ongoing financial activities as the airline navigates its financial landscape amidst merger talks.
