Barcelona’s top court has approved a ban on holiday apartment rentals by 2028, dismissing an appeal regarding private property rights.
The city was the first in Spain to take such drastic measures to combat rising rental costs and will cease renewing licences for short-term rentals post-2028.
To accommodate tourists after the rental ban, Barcelona plans to focus on increasing hotel accommodations outside the city centre while managing pressure on housing from affluent visitors.
Mayor Jaume Collboni shared: “The ruling by the Constitutional Court reinforces, validates and gives legal security to this measure. We are on the right path.”
