An Bord Pleanála has overturned Meath County Council’s approval for the conversion of horse yard buildings in Bellewstown into tourism accommodation, which was initially granted to Gavin and Orlaith Duffy.
The Bórd questioned the “haphazard” nature of a new residential building for short-term tourism.
The original plan allowed for the development of nine short-term and five long-term residential units, subject to specific conditions and modifications to existing farm buildings.
Concerns raised during the appeals process included traffic safety risks, the potential for unsustainable development due to long-term rentals, and perceived neglect of third-party submissions by the council.
Ultimately, the appeals board cited these concerns as key factors in its decision to deny the proposed accommodation development at Horse Yard Buildings.
