Minister Dara Calleary announced a five-year partnership with Bord na Móna, allocating €350,000 to maintain and support trail networks in five counties: Longford, Offaly, Roscommon, Tipperary, and Westmeath.
The funding aims to enhance tourism and amenities while ensuring the maintenance of the midlands trail network and facilities within Lough Boora Discovery Park.
Minister Calleary acknowledged the investment from the EU Just Transition Fund in developing the trail network to provide new outdoor recreation opportunities for residents and visitors.
BnM’s CEO Tom Donnellan mentioned that the partnership will help create social and environmental value for communities in the Midlands while supporting Ireland’s renewable energy goals.
Both leaders emphasised the importance of maintaining these trails to protect the investment and promote long-term benefits for future generations.
Minister Calleary shared, “In order to protect this investment, my department is happy to partner with BnM to support and maintain these facilities for future generations.”
Tom Donnellan shared, “BnM is working with our landbank, strategic partners and local communities to develop our renewable energy infrastructure and deliver on Ireland’s net zero ambition.”
