An Bord Pleanála has confirmed Galway County Council’s decision to refuse a proposed eight-storey hotel project in Briarhill, Galway, citing its excessive scale and lack of exceptional design quality.
Some local residents opposed the hotel, expressing that its size and design would negatively affect the surrounding neighborhood, leading to a third-party appeal.
The planning application process has spanned over four years, initially approved by Galway City Council in 2022 before facing multiple appeals and reviews.
The planning authority cited inadequate public transport facilities in the area and criticized the proposed reduction in car parking spaces as not sufficiently justified.
