Plans for a €40m carbon-neutral 186-bedroom hotel at Briarhill in Galway have been rejected by the planning appeals board despite the recommendations of its own inspector.
The proposed hotel, which aimed to be the first carbon net-zero hotel in Ireland, was planned by Galway-born Neil Armstrong.
The board ruled that the project would harm the visual amenities of the local area and deemed it out of character for the outer suburbs of Galway.
