Bórd Pleanála rules IPAS will require planning at Lismore House Hotel

An Bord Pleanála ruled on January 23 that the modifications made to Lismore House Hotel in Lismore, Co Waterford, to establish a care facility for IPAS refugees require planning permission.

Patrick Gibney referred this decision to the board after Waterford City and County Council stated on May 25, 2023, that the works were exempted development.

The renovations, ongoing since January 2022, included major alterations to the hotel’s interior and exterior, which raised concerns from a local resident residing in the architectural conservation area.

The determination was based on the need for an architectural impact assessment to show that the character of Lismore House Hotel, a protected structure, would not be adversely affected.
