The Car Rental Council of Ireland reports that cars available for hire this year will be 20pc behind pre-pandemic peak, so consumers should book early as prices for summer 2024 remain below the previous two years at present.
The cost of car hire has decreased in many destinations compared to 2023, according to analysis by car hire broker Zest Rental.
The analysis examined data from over 3,000 rentals at airports in 13 popular holiday destinations, including Orlando, Alicante, Lanzarote, and Corfu.
Eleven out of the 13 destinations surveyed have seen average prices drop for the forthcoming Easter holidays compared to last year, while nine destinations have seen prices fall for the summer break.
Funchal in Madeira saw the biggest price drop over Easter, with a decrease of £146 (35pc) compared to last year. Palma, Mallorca followed closely with a 29pc drop in average rental costs.
Lanzarote has the lowest average rental costs over the summer holidays, at £190 per week, a 27pc decrease compared to last summer.
While prices are decreasing, it’s important for travellers to use reputable car hire firms or trusted brokers to avoid hidden fees or pressure to purchase unnecessary extras.
