The Celebrity Eclipse has successfully docked in Amsterdam after a previous attempt was blocked by Extinction Rebellion protesters on July 27. It is currently sailing to Dover.
Dutch law enforcement intervened after a two-hour standoff, using patrol launches to clear the waterway and allowing the Celebrity Eclipse to dock safel
Extinction Rebellion’s first protest involved approximately 35 militants and resulted in five arrests for assault and refusal to identify.
The protest aimed to raise awareness of environmental concerns related to cruise ships and their impact on climate and local communities.
Extinction Rebellion shared, “We protest with this blockade against the harmful influence of cruise ships on humans, nature and the climate. Cruise ships should not be allowed in Dutch waters. We will continue with actions like this until this harmful tourist industry is banned from Amsterdam and the rest of the Netherlands.”
