Climate action day: Killarney raises stake on claim to be Ireland’s greenest destination

Killarney is showcasing its commitment to sustainability ahead of International Day of Climate Action. 

The town, which famously banned single-use coffee cups in June Is inviting visitors to choose eco-friendly transportation, sustainable accommodation, and enjoy a range of sustainable activities.

They can explore forest trails, visit Muckross Creamery, or spot deer in Killarney National Park. Sustainable options include taking guided photography tours, sipping sustainable coffee, or exploring the park on horseback.

Killarney actively promotes recycling, waste reduction, and eco-friendly transportation and was named Ireland’s Tidiest Large Town. 

The Killarney Hotels Sustainability Group focuses on reducing waste, using green energy, and removing single-use plastics. Numerous restaurants offer sustainable menu options, and Killarney Urban Farm supplies local produce.

Travellers can further reduce their carbon footprint by taking the train or bus, using the red bus within the town, biking, boating, or using jaunting cars, perhaps the original sustainable transport option for tourists.
