Mystery still surrounds the diversion of American Airlines Flight 292, departing from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City to New Delhi, which was rerouted to Rome, due to a suspected bomb threat.
American Airlines shared that the issue was determined to be “non-credible,” but Indira Gandhi International Airport protocol required an inspection.
Security checks were conducted at Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport on the aircraft, which carried 199 passengers and 15 crew members, and the threat was later deemed non-credible.
The flight remained in Rome overnight for required crew rest, with passengers who could enter Europe provided accommodation in nearby hotels, while others waited in designated airport lounges. It continued the following day.
American airlinesIt was reported that two fighter jets flew over the airport before the landing. The airport noted that law enforcement and fire personnel were on the tarmac after the plane landed, per protocol.
