What might be termed a canine commission, ‘Ivan’s Travels Through Dog-Friendly Ireland: has been released by authors Anthony Walsh and Lucy Costigan.

The guide, as it is subtitled, to Eateries, Pubs, Accommodation, Shops, Visitor and Nature Attractions’ features the best dog-friendly locations across all 32 counties, inspired by a Border Collie named Ivan rescued in Waterford.

The authors are donating 40pc of royalties from book purchases to four Irish dog charities focusing on rescue and therapy. The updated FSAI regulation from 2017 has contributed to the growth of Ireland’s dog-friendly culture, encouraging businesses to welcome pets.

Lucy Costigan shared: “We discovered during our travels that many Irish people see dogs as beloved family members. Our book celebrates that bond, and we’re excited to share these stories and practical tips. Ivan’s boundless curiosity and infectious joy have been our greatest inspiration, teaching us that life’s adventures are richer when shared with a loyal dog companion by your side.”
