Dominican Republic reports strong tourism start to 2026

The Dominican Republic kicked off 2026 with impressive tourism numbers, welcoming 1,219,606 visitors in January alone.

 This total reflects a 5.5pc growth from January 2025, a 14.2pc rise compared to 2024, and a substantial 61.7pc increase over 2019 figures. Air arrivals accounted for 825,847 tourists, showing an 8.7pc year-on-year uptick, while maritime visitors numbered 393,759, surging 21pc from 2024 and 152pc from 2019. 

Tourism Minister David Collado highlighted these achievements during a presentation at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, emphasising the sector’s robust recovery and growth. The data underscores the country’s appeal as a leading Caribbean destination for both leisure and cruise travellers.
