The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) plans to resubmit a request to increase the annual passenger cap to 36m after Fingal County Council deemed their first application invalid last month.
Currently restricted to 32m passengers due to planning conditions from the construction of Terminal 2 nearly 20 years ago, the DAA argues that lifting the cap is crucial for enhancing Ireland’s connectivity and economic growth.
Despite recent strong January performance, Dublin Airport experienced a 1% decline in passenger numbers year-on-year, while Cork Airport saw a 7% increase during the same period.
The DAA projects that removing the cap could have added an estimated 150,000-200,000 passengers in January alone.
