Over €400,000 has been awarded to repair and protect three historic structures in County Kildare. The announcement comes from the Minister for Housing Heritage and Local Government. The investment helps maintain important heritage assets in the county.

Three historic Kildare structures have been awarded a combined total of €400,813 in funding to support critical conservation and repair works.

The funding, announced on 9 April 2026, is part of the Historic Structures Fund (HSF), a national initiative by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage to safeguard Ireland’s architectural legacy.  The three sites receiving the bulk of this local investment are:

Nationwide, the Government awarded €4.42 million to 40 projects under the 2026 Historic Structures Fund. Minister James Browne highlighted that the funding not only preserves buildings but also supports skilled craftspeople and heritage contractors, helping to maintain traditional building skills. These grants typically operate on a match-funding basis, meaning owners or local authorities must also contribute to the final cost of the works. 

Earlier this year, additional smaller-scale grants were also confirmed for other Kildare sites—including Saint Brigid’s Cathedral and the Kildare Community Development Centre under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme.
