Egypt has abandoned a contentious proposal to reapply ancient granite cladding on the pyramid of Menkaure, one of the great pyramids of Giza, as confirmed by a committee appointed by the tourism minister.

The initial plan was announced by Mostafa Waziri, the secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, who referred to it as “the project of the century.”

Following the committee’s decision, the project to restore the granite cladding on the pyramid of Menkaure has been halted, marking a shift from the ambitious restoration plans previously set forth.
