Eithna’s By The Sea seafood restaurant in Sligo has closed after 30 years in business. Owner Eithna O’Sullivan cited challenges in running a small business in the current environment and difficulties in finding seasonal staff as reasons for the closure.
In a statement on the restaurant’s website, she expressed gratitude to the teams, suppliers, tradespeople, artists, friends, and supporters who contributed to its success over the years.
She mentioned that while many memories were created, she believed it was time for a younger generation to take over the helm of the business.
Ms O’Sullivan said: “After much consideration over the last few months I have finally decided to permanently close the doors of Eithna’s By the Sea, bringing to an end over three decades of my passion and love of running what became an iconic seafood restaurant on the Wild Atlantic Way. Running a small business in the current climate had become very challenging and there were difficulties in sourcing seasonal staff.”
In a post on the restaurant’s website, she thanked “the hard-working teams who have come and gone over the many seasons, all the local suppliers, trades people who came at all hours, the local artists whose work both outside and inside helped to create the atmosphere, website and flower arrangements, and the many friends who stepped in in various ways in hours of need. Memories have been made. It’s time for a younger generation to take the helm.”
