Ethiopian Airlines has formalised a 2023 Memorandum of Understanding with the South Sudanese government to establish a national airline, enhancing South Sudan’s air connectivity and economic integration.
The agreement, signed by South Sudan’s Transport Minister and the Ethiopian Ambassador, includes Ethiopian Airlines providing management, technical support, and training to South Sudan’s aviation sector.
South Sudan has pursued the establishment of a national carrier since its independence in 2011, but faced challenges due to political instability and previous withdrawal of partners like Atlasjet Airlines in 2013.
This initiative will bolster Ethiopian Airlines’ influence in African aviation, supporting its Vision 2025 plan to develop multiple African hubs and increase regional air network connectivity.
