Finnair has launched a new SAF service to allow businesses to monitor and reduce flight emissions via sustainable aviation fuel attributes.

Companies can purchase SAF environmental attributes to lower their carbon footprint, verified by third-party audits for sustainability reporting. The service uses a book-and-claim model, where emission reductions are not tied to the specific flights taken by employees.

Finnair aims to triple its SAF usage from 0.5% in 2024, collaborating with Neste to utilise renewable raw materials like used cooking oil. Eight corporate and cargo customers have adopted the SAF service, with 31,000 individual customers contributing to SAF promotion.

Tuomo Karppinen shared: “We want to develop flying in a more sustainable direction and are now taking steps on several different fronts. The greenhouse gas emissions reduction in sustainable aviation fuel is significant.”
