Galway County Council has approved the county’s first-ever tourism strategy, aimed at spreading the benefits of Galway’s thriving tourism industry across the wider county.
The plan focuses on sustainable tourism development, job creation, and attracting longer-staying and higher-spending visitors to Galway’s towns and villages.
Galway, as one of Ireland’s top cultural and natural heritage tourism destinations outside of Dublin, already attracts nearly 2m visitors, contributing €754m in tourism expenditure.
The strategy aims to foster collaboration and partnership between public bodies, private enterprises, communities, and individuals, ensuring the successful development of tourism in the county over the next eight years. Its key actions and recommendations revolve around four strategic areas and six Development Zones.
Liam Conneally, Chief Executive of Galway County Counci said “The Strategy is built around four strategic areas, each with key actions and recommendations and is also supported by the identification of six Development Zones that ensure more targeted interventions where they are required to address more local challenges and opportunities.”
The formal launch of the County Galway Tourism Strategy 2023-2031 is scheduled for early 2024.
