
Ireland’s boating season officially reopens from March 17th, commencing activities by 15,000 registered boats on the navigable waterways throughout spring and summer, with 175 locks and chambers, and 360 bridges are ready to operate for the season ahead across the Grand Canal, Royal Canal, Shannon, Shannon-Erne, Erne, Barrow, and Lower Bann navigations. New features for 2024:
- Waterways Ireland Facilities: Waterways Ireland provides a variety of services and facilities at over 250 amenity sites along 1,100km of waterways, benefiting local businesses and communities.
- Investments in Waterways: Waterways Ireland has invested over €100m since 2002, creating an international boating destination along the Shannon Navigation and Shannon-Erne Waterway.
- Enhancements for Boaters: Boaters will enjoy new and refurbished facilities this season, including extensions to Connaught Harbour in Portumna, a new section of Blueway in Portumna, linking Connaught Harbour and Castle Harbour, jetties on the Erne at Devenish Island, and a Service Block Refurbishment project at Ballyconnell and Ballinamore.
