Starting next year, passengers at Hong Kong’s international airport will no longer need to remove liquids and electronic devices from their carry-on luggage for security scanning. This is part of the “Smartlane” initiative by the Aviation Authority, aimed at making security screening faster and more convenient.

Hong Kong’s Chief Executive, John Lee, mentioned during the 2023 Policy outline that this forward-looking move will benefit all passengers by improving security screening procedures.

By 2025, an autonomous transportation system called the Airport City Link will be introduced. It will transport passengers between SKYCITY and the Hong Kong Port Island, which connects to Macau. This implementation is expected to enhance transportation efficiency.

The Airport City Link is planned for extension over a distance of 1.0 kilometer to Tung Chung Town Centre by the year 2028, further expanding the reach of this autonomous transportation system.
