
Irish hoteliers have identified the rising cost of doing business as the most serious challenge for hotels this year, with potential forecasts indicating an 8pc increase in costs.
A survey by the Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) showed a decline in optimism among hotel owners and general managers, with only 47pc optimistic about trading conditions, down from almost three-quarters the previous year.
Concerns about the economic outlook are prevalent, with 80pc of hotels worried due to a 4.5pc decrease in forward bookings compared to the previous year.
Despite challenges, hotels are investing in property enhancements to attract visitors, with 78pc planning investment projects such as refurbishing guest bedrooms and common areas as well as implementing guest technology.
