IATA reports 14.1pc growth in global air cargo demand in June

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported a strong annual growth in global air cargo demand in June 2024, with a 14.1pc increase over June 2023 levels.

Capacity for air cargo, measured in available cargo tonne-kilometers (ACTKs), also rose by 8.8pc compared to June 2023, contributing to the sector’s continued growth.

Total half-year (H1) demand for air cargo increased by 13.4pc compared to H1 2023, surpassing levels from previous years and indicating a robust performance in 2024.

Regional performance in June 2024 showed Asia-Pacific airlines leading with 17.0pc year-on-year demand growth, while North American carriers experienced the weakest growth at 9.5pc. European carriers, Middle Eastern carriers, Latin American carriers, and African airlines also saw positive demand growth for air cargo during the same period.
