Iberia has no plans to close its subsidiary Iberia Express, and says it remains a key component of its short- and medium-haul network.

Iberia’s CEO Marco Sansavini, noted that, while Iberia Express’ growth has been suboptimal, it was decided to maintain its current scale for now.

Iberia is developing Ciudad Iberia, a new corporate headquarters at La Muñoza near Madrid Barajas airport, with a project value of €600m (USD690m).

The Ciudad Iberia project and operational expansion will require Iberia to hire approximately 1,000 new employees annually through the 2030 Flight Plan.

The relocation to Ciudad Iberia aims to support Iberia’s growing operations centred around Madrid Barajas airport.

Marco Sansavini shared: “Iberia Express’ growth has not been optimal, so it will remain stagnant for the time being.”
